Government College of Commerce &
Economics Karachi
The Government College of Commerce &
Economics Karachi holds a unique
position in the city's educational
system. As a respected institution,
it is committed to intellectual
leadership, and to excellence in
both developing knowledge and
conveying that knowledge to its
students.
At present, the number of students
(boys & girls) in the college is
slightly over 4,000. There are about
30 faculty members and other non
teaching staff.
The College in the beginning was
housed in small buildings on the
grounds of the DJ College.
Later, due to increasing
enrolment of students, it began to
be felt that the space in which the
college was functioning was not
enough for its needs. In due course
of time, the college acquired its
own building where classes were
started during the 1967-68 session.
College always proudly mentions the
names of renowned educationists and
scholars associated with this
institution of higher learning like,
Professor
Razi-Ur-Rehman, Education Secretary & Professor N.
A. Farooqui. later became
chairman Inter Board Karachi and
then chairman of Public Service
commission, serving till 1992.
Government College of Commerce &
Economics today
The Government College of Commerce &
Economics Karachi today is the
biggest Commerce College of the
city. It comprises two faculties:
Commerce & Computer Science.

Prof. Dr. Razia Khokhar is the
present principal of College. During
her tenure, the college has made
progress by leaps and bounds. The
College is now moving fast on the
path of technological development
playing its due role in the national
development.
The Mission of the college is to
foster a learning environment, where
students are motivated to make
learning an on-going life-long
process. The college faculty is
committed to using the best teaching
and training methodologies.
